Rice goes very well with seafood, chicken, pork, Spanish and Asian dishes.
I love making rice because there are soooo many options to create great tasting rice. My favorite rice is Uncle Bens Converted rice because of it's texture and it never gets mushy.
*When cooking an Asian meal, I add shredded coconut to the rice just before serving.
*Sometimes I use chunk pineapple along with the pineapple juice added to the rice water.
*You can flavor your rice with chicken or beef bouillon
*For creamy rice, add a milk to the water
*You can add some orange juice to the water to create a nice fresh citrus flavor to the rice.
*I often add a cup of frozen peas to the rice 5 minutes before it is finished cooking.
*Fresh herbs are great to throw into the rice with squeezed lemon or lime.
*I never add butter to rice, I use olive oil or flavored olive oils instead. It is healthier.
*Add half a can of condensed tomato soup in the rice water for great tomato flavored rice, add chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon for extra good flavor.
*Add a cup of frozen mixed veggies for a colorful rice dish.
*Sautee onions and mushrooms in a pan and then add the rice to brown it. Use a little soy sauce or water or wine to deglaze the pan. Boil water in a separate pan and then add the rice mixture for a hearty rice.
So, depending on the way you prepare your meat that you serve with the rice, you can serve flavorful rice without much effort. Sometimes I concentrate on the rice while, say, I sauté a chicken breast. When the chicken is ready, I chop it up and add it to the rice for a quick easy meal. Same with shrimp.
