Climate change caused by human activity has altered weather patterns.

Time dilation caused by either a cosmic anomaly or smoking excessive weed.

Because the world and its weather are not predictable for more than a few days. The notion of a "500 year flood" is valid in general terms as a statistical statement based on records, but Nature comes along and confounds any set of statistics formed by humans. Possibly in a few years time that "500 year" figure might be revised to "100 years" or even "40 years" or less by those scientists who work at such matters. Such figures are not "fixed for all time".

And that is without thinking about global warming, which is happening whether any one person believes it or not (Trump, are you listening?). Whether that warming is natural or largely man-made is the subject of debate. There seems little doubt that at least some of the warming is caused by human actions in recent centuries, accelerating in recent decades.

Just because something is rare doesnt mean it cant happen...

When someone says a 500 year event that means 1 year in 500 should have it

1/500 odds does not mean it cant happen 3 times in 500 years just doeant happen much

    499/500 it wont happen

Well it sure as hell has nothing to do man made global warming. Anyone who understands Carbon Chemistry know CO2 et.al in the atmosphere does nothing.

How is it possible? Global warming. No one event can be definitively attributed to it, but the rise of catastrophic weather events can be.

Now go look up the increase in earthquakes because of fracking.

I live in Harris County, and Hurricane Harvey is the only major flooding I've experienced in the last 3 years.

Climate people who make up these charts about flood zones and flood plains lie a lot.

Did you hear the one about how Trump, by executive fiat, rolled back Federal flood control rules and regs just WEEKS before a round of massive flooding in a state that voted for him??

That's a wise and insightful POTUS right there.........

It's almost like Texas conservatives had to learn the hard way that.... the climate...... it seems to be..... changing.
