When making Indian curry...what should use as a "Base substance" to add spices etc to?

have read to use like chicken broth...or beef broth..but what if use like Campbell's soup ? like "Cream of Brocolli" or "Cream of Celery" or "Cream of Mushroom"? surely these wont drown out the strong Curry paste flavor and will add nutrients more than chicken broth or beef broth?
