Probably because if anything goes wrong they want to be last. it's a good strategy when you think of it because when a film sucks they usually blame the person whose name is on the top of the poster. if it's a hit they get a pat on the back and more jobs.

But the real shot callers are the producers and directors they make the money. even if t fails they get the money.

People don't usually care who the director is unless he's drawn attention to himself like M. Night. they can operate under anonymity and survive disaster after disaster (unless his name is Michael Cemino R.I.P.) and no one knows.Because the name at the top of the poster draws their attention away.

For instance GEOSTORM is coming out and has been delayed for 3 years. That is not a good sign. But people will go to the show to see it anyway because Gerard Butler is in it.

Possibly because out of a long list of names you will remember the last one the most. They probably regard the director as most important.

because ppl want to know the actors names first. the directors direct. but the ppl performing are what makes their art come to life.

the only ones interested in directors are ppl in the film industry.

I believe that it's because the Director's Guild of America insisted that it be done that way.
