Only disappointment is Gambhir not getting selected. The brand of cricket he is playing currently ,he had to be there.
Other option was Rahane opening the innings. Two of Ajinkya Rahane‘s two ODI centuries have come in England.Rahane has played better in overseas conditions than he has in India, across formats. But he has flattered to deceive lately in limited-overs cricket: big-hitting isn’t his forte and Rahane also struggles to rotate strike regardless of the position he bats at. Rohit’s partner, ideally, has to be someone who is capable of scoring runs in a hurry in the mandatory powerplay and Rahane is definitely not a batsman who suits that role.
Which then brings us to Shikhar Dhawan, who is enduring a rough patch.I just hope he scores decently to get us off to a good start.
Yuvraj and Dhoni played just one good knock each in the three ODIs against England.Although Dhoni and Yuvraj aren’t the batsmen they once were and could be a liability if they walk in with their team two or three down with not many on the board, India will hope that this duo deliver the goods. If Kohli dosen't score heavily ,we'd be relying heavily on these two and in the past it has been a disappointment .
Kedar Jadhav put up an exhibition of his batting skills in the three ODIs against England, making 232 runs, and has made No. 6 his own ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017. Jadhav will be vital to India’s chances of retaining the trophy they won in the 2013 edition of this tournament.
Hardik Pandya‘s bowling has come on leaps and bounds in the last five-six months, and in seamer-friendly English conditions, I expect him to be picked in the Indian squad for Champions Trophy. Even though his batting is quite unreliable, Pandya’s skill set is too good to overlook.
Bhuvneshwar was another one of the names which will be hard to leave out from the squad for the Champions Trophy, considering that the tournament will be played in England and the suitability of the seamer for the English conditions goes without saying.
Shami has constantly broken down with a variety of muscle injuries, in addition to the knee injuries. But when he is fit, he is the most accomplished Indian pacer
Umesh Yadav was also expected to be picked in the Indian squad for the CT .He is a wicket taker who has improved his accuracy in line and length.
The Champions Trophy isn’t a long tournament, so the chances of players breaking down are minimal.
Overall our fast bowling looks good. The most important thing we need is Kohli's form. With him in the form ,we don't need to worry about a anything else .
