When your dog ate your favorite slippers you got angry. You may have called him a "shoe-eater" or perhaps even yelled some obscenities completed unrelated to canines. Then you realize that its just a dog and chewing up slippers is what dogs do!
Well I think this is what's wrong in today's world. When a person get's labeled as a Christian, atheist, gay, racist, or in this case a "religious zealot" we forget that they are a PERSON first and being human is what people do.
Being humand doesn't just mean kindness, empathy, love, intelligence, and rationality. Being human also means bigotry, hatred, being irrational, lazy, cruel, and stupid.
People can be many things at the same time so why pick just ONE characteristic and use that to define them?
