Should the world just have one giant doomsday device and if any nations get belligerent they have one warning to stop or else the world ends?

To ensure world peace, global stability and to prevent an escalation of the nuclear arms race. The device would be maintained and operated by some top secret cabal, but of course everyone would know about the existence of the Doomsday Device - so as to avoid a Dr. Strangelove type catastrophe.

Bad idea. Whoever was in charge of this doomsday thingy would very quickly become a bunch of dictators telling the world what to do and how to do it. Even if they were killed along with everyone else people would obey them because they would not want to die.

Good idea. Tell people that if they behave badly you will kill yourself. Makes a lot of sense.
