Change in V = (12 - 4) = 8m/sec., in 5 secs.

Acceleration = (v/t) = (8/5) = 1.6m/sec^2.

If there were no friction, the force required to accelerate at 1.6m/sec^2 = (ma) = (7 x 1.6) = 11.2N.

Normal force = (mg) = (7 x 9.8) = 68.6N. (ans).

The normal force upwards, is equal to weight downwards. Is "weing" meant to be weight?

Friction force = (68.6 x 0.5) = 34.3N. (ans)

You need to apply (11.2 + 34.3) = 45.5N. (ans).
