Was the band Lynyrd Skynyrd conservative or liberal compared to the modern conservatives of the South?

Conservative traits of Skynyrd:

1) flew the Confederate Battle Flag

2) sang the anti-Neil Young song "Sweet Home Alabama" praising Nixon, George Wallace and other conservative candidates

3) referenced the movie "Gone with the Wind" (1939) in the song "Tuesday's Gone"

4) have a 2012 album called "God and Guns"

5) toured extensively with mega-conservative rocker Ted Nugent

6) criticized Yankee hanky panky in the song "Working for MCA"

7) etc.

Liberal traits of Skynyrd:

1) Long flowing hair like Conan the Barbarian

2) Lots of wiggy guitar solos

3) Sang "That Smell" about how drug addicts and alcoholics should clean up for their own self preservation

4) Sang "Saturday Night Special" warning how all illegal guns should be "buried at the bottom of the sea, before some fool comes around here wanna shoot either you or me"

5) Pro-marijuana legalization as evidenced by the pot leafs adorning the cover of the album "Second Helping"

6) Sang anti-racist songs "the Ballad of Curtis Lowe" and "Things Goin On that You Don't Know" about "have you ever been down in that ghetto" and how sad it is

7) etc.

In general they are conservative, almost libertarian. The key is they weren't racist.
