If California became independent and hence a separate country in its own right, would if be better able to control its borders with Mexico?

Would there be any advantages for a Calexit, where America's largest, most populated and important state, breaks away from the Union and becomes an independent, sovereign and self governing nation in its own right?

You sound like one of the idiot texit people. Of course not. Undocumented immigrants mostly do NOT come over the border. They come here on visas and just stay.

Our borders are controlled. Trump lies to the contrary. Obama has slowed immigration and deported more than any other president in recent memory.

Not to mention the issues with leaving. First, they would have set up border control on all borders -because it would no longer be part of the US. Anyone from California or Texas would be immigrants and have to go through the whole immigration green card process to come to the US.

Not to mention each state would have to pay for their share of the US debt, pay for all the highways, airports, dams, levees, ports, hospitals, libraries, federal lands, etc. that they would be taking. They would have to raise their own army - and equip it. The cost would be tremendous

You see, this is where socialized systems really benefit individual states...

I think California should be cut in half from north to south along the east side of the coast ranges, divided into East and West California.

California can do a lot of things.

Did you know if California were a country, it would have a larger economy than Russia?

That would create a need to secure the Arizona and Nevada borders too . As it is now , they can't even secure the Ca. Mexico border .

Most important state???? Not if you are looking for the state with the most resources.

That's an odd statement given that the Founding Fathers, as progressive as they were, cared greatly about sovereignty.
