Diarrhea which is caused by a bacterial infection, low immunity, stress and over crowding. It smells, your animal will act sick, and it's bottom side under the whole tail area will look wet and soiled. It is very hard to miss. If your hamster does not have these signs or appearances you should not worry about it having wet tail.

Wet tail is a disease of hamsters that's usually caused by stress. Meaning, too much handling, change in environment, change in diet, unclean cage, illness or death of a bonded friend, etc. The most common symptoms are diarrhea and lethargy.
It is somewhat common.
