What are some appropriate anime for my high school anime club?

My friend runs the school s anime club and I m a council member or vice-vice-president or what have you and I m helping them find shows we could watch during the year. However, I m exactly an otaku or anything, and while I do love anime, I don t have the exhaustive knowledge of all things anime that some folks seem to have. I d appreciate some suggestions for appropriate shows.

Requirements:

Some sort of meaningful underlying theme. Have to be able to take notes and analyze the show.

Vulgarity is allowed, but no excessive nudity or sex. If we can t quickly skip a scene without being too disruptive, we can t show it. For an example of how bad we can get, we watched Akira and Neon Genesis Evangelion last year (but not End of Evangelion).

No ecchi

No romance shows, I can t imagine keeping a group of teenage boys attentive with that

No super long shows like DBZ, One Piece, etc.

Suggestions for anime movies would also be appreciated, following the same guidelines.

Anyone who loves anime probably has watched it:

FMA Brotherhood. Many subjects can be discussed here, especially philosophical meaning of life.

Would be interesting to discuss the psychology of the main character:

RE: Zero kara hajimeru isekai seikatsu.

Something dark to discuss: Jigoku Shoujo, Death Parade.

Sci-fi and survival: Jyu Oh Sei.

    Movie: Grave of Fireflies.

There are a lot of appropriate anime but I really only want to recommend one: Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin. It's about prison-life in the fifties and it's very psychological and realistic. It really made me think about life and it was really amazing. It's about friendship, justice, the unfairness of life and it's just really amazing. It can be a bit cruel so you need to be a bit older to be able to watch it as there are some violent scenes and also a rape scene, but these are not justified or romanticized, they just show how cruel life can be. I really really recommend this anime!

Dbz or db super. Food wars is great! Although that maybe inappropriate for some.
