Since the government chooses presidents for us. Why do they need our votes?
To make us feel special?
I just call it the "goverment" for simplicities sake
Me idiot? Explain our two candidates, I sure didn't put them there

Good question. The government doesnt choose the president. People do. The committee for Dems and Repubs choose the candidates and the order of the primaries. The delegates choose the candidate to nominate, the electoral college votes are apportioned to decide the winner. It is rife with corruption. It should be a direct popular vote.

the Republican Party is NOT the government, the Democratic Party is NOT the government, the Libertarian Party is NOT the government, the Green Party is NOT the government, plus there are a few independents running depending on what state you reside in. George Wallace was the Peace and Freedom Party candidate and won a few states to get electoral votes. So government does not chose who will be President, and not even who will run for election either. The state government (not the Federal government) is responsible for running the elections and candidates have to register in every state to get on the ballot. Because of this, it is difficult for a non-major party candidate to get on all 50 + DC ballots. Ross Perot was the last independent to accomplish this. The Green Party is only on about 20 state ballots, not enough to win the electoral college.

The government doesn't choose, the parties do. Then the electoral college, which is not the government.
