I think it means what it says. The protagonist's innocence (a feature of beauty) is offered as a prize to any thief who, under the circumstances made clear in the plotting, can get away with the crime of passion. Also note the number of forms of art represented through he course of he movie.
Then too, there is the old critique which says that when you look to close you lose sight of the item as a work of art: "We murder to dissect".
