In the pianist movie what happened to captain wilm hosenfeld did Wladyslaw Szpilman come and get him?

Hosenfeld was captured by Soviet troops, and like so many other German and Western allied soldiers nabbed by the Red Army at the end of the war, he was shuffled into the prison system and later died. Records indicate he died in 1952. Szpilman had no way of knowing Hosenfeld's fate. It's really not reasonable to assume a piano player (even one of note) could have done anything more for Hosenfeld than the Red Cross or other organizations that devoted themselves to identifying and repatriating POWs in Soviet custody after the war.
