How does geico find the other driver's insurance information from the police report?
The police report just says their name, address, license plate, and drivers license ID number. This is NY state btw

Driver's licence number can be used by any insurance company to find anyone's policy number. They can even do a search just with name and address. There is a central database that is used by pretty much all insurance companies, even the little hick-town farmers' mutual companies.
There are also often two copies of a police report: The copy they give to you, and the copy they keep on file and provide to insurance companies. Your copy only has the information you need, since you don't have any way of searching someone else's insurance details. But while you're not allowed to search another person's policy details, insurance companies are.

Computer data bases are wonderful things when properly used. Geico will have the other driver's full details in an instant once they punch in their license plate. Or address. Or driver's license number.

If the police report doesn't show insurance for the other driver, perhaps the other driver's car was not insured. If so, simply use your own insurance. They will advise you, they will protect you.
When you have insurance .....USE IT ! .......... even it is just for advice

Insurance details are all held on computer and shared between insurance companies.
Very easy for them.

They can look it up by the license plates or the D/L number.
