How do I transfer my operating system from the HDD its installed on to a replacement SSD that I bought?

SSD: Samsung Evo 850, 250GB

Computer: HP G62

OS: Windows 10

    You would have to reduce the partition size on the HDD to be equal or less than the SDD. This may involve removing photos, music etc and then shrinking the partition. After that you can use some cloning software to image the hard drive across. Alternatively make a recovery USB/DVD from the software on the computer and then do a clean install onto the SSD. You would then need to reinstall all your other stuff and reuse the HDD as mass storage.

    This only works if the SSD is as big as ALL the data on the HDD. You can't just transfer your OS. You have to take it all. If it's too big, you're wasting your time and just need to reinstall from scratch.

    (if it is big enough, I use Clonezilla to image hard drive)
