Say I have 5 stocks in my portfolio with Broker A. I want to transfer 2 stocks to Broker B. How do I do this?

I am aware of ACAT but if I understand it right, ACAT transfers the entire portfolio from Broker A to B. I don't want that.

You can do a partial ACATS, as long as the stock is eligible.

    Contact the receiving broker

Just call either broker and they can set it up. Just make sure they do it and the certificates don't come to you because if it is not an institutional transfer, it becomes a taxable event. (assuming you are in the US - but I don't know what acat means so maybe not?)

Wow... I can't believe I answered this like this. It doesn't even make sense! It was late & I was thinking about tax qualified accts like an IRA rollover, but still. Yeewww!
