What are the job possibilities on shore duty?
My husband is a CS and will be reenlisting soon and he'll be getting shore duty at least that is what he thinks, he's not too sure and he doesn't get much info from anybody on the sub. What could he possibly be doing while on shore duty? I know this is a very broad question but what is it like? Is it almost as much freedom as civilian life? And kind of help is appreciated! :)

As a CS (ss), Cooking or Barracks Support or possibly dropping to the general duty detailer.
- and if he lands a gig cooking in the Galley, his hours will be LONG, even on shore duty.
- but unless it is also his PRD and he has completed his Sea Tour, he might remain right where he is. (first tour CS(ss) has a 52/36 Sea/Shore rotation)

His detailer will have list of open shore duty billets that he can be assigned to. That list changes regularly and is not only based on his rating (CS) but also his rate (E?).
When on shore duty the jobs tend to be pretty much 40 hour a week type jobs, the hours of course depend on what he would be doing. Duty days are not normally very frequent.

not necessarily. he could be working just as many hours, or be on shift work that rotates every few weeks. if shore duty is even an option at all.
