Would Ronald Reagan have bombed Iran if they did not release the American hostages?

The Iranian terrorists kidnapped Americans in 1979 and held them as hostage under Jimmy Carter's watch. Well Carter did kick out Iranians that were already in the U.S., during the Iran hostage crisis, but Iran did not return the hostages under Carter. That happened when Reagan became president, then the Iranians released the hostages. He probably would've bombed them if they thought Reagan was the same as Carter.

Update:

I know liberals are going to say Reagan sold arms to Iran, while at least he strengthened the might of the U.S. military while Obama has defunded and cut the size of the military, and is letting Iran get the nuclear bomb they want. No word on that.

Reagan did not mess around with terrorists.

    Just ask Muammar Gaddafi.

When Libyaian terrorists started terrorizing US interests Reagan started bombing Libya, and he put a cruise missile right into Gaddafi's house, killing many family members.

We did not hear a peep out of those terrorists for many years after that.

No. That would make no sense. Oliver North was sent by Reagan to sell arms to Iran to help get the American hostages out of Lebanon (do people even remember about those hostages).

Carter got the Iran hostages out, because he agreed to release some frozen Iranian assets on certain conditions. Ayatollah Khomeini would not give the go-ahead to release the hostages until after Reagan had been sworn in, because the Ayatollah still resented Carter for having been the Shah's guest in Tehran and for letting him into the US to receive his cancer treatments, near the end of his life, which helped incite the pro-Khomeini students to seize the US embassy in the first place.

Yes he would have after the USS Samuel B. Robert's was mined in the Persian Gulf. Their was a counterattack against Iranian oil platforms and their surface Navy in which we sent some of their boats to the bottom of the sea. Naked aggression didn't go unchecked. Reagan wasn't best at conducting foreign policy but he was light years ahead of Carter and Obama.

No. They waited for him before considering letting them go! You should understand, Carter was the President when the Shaw was deposed. This made Carter a supporter of the Shaw. They could not negotiate with a friend of the Shaw. They had to wait for Reagan!

He would have used that as a reason to start a entire ground war in Iran and joined into the entire Middle East

Reagan gave Iran weapons for release of hostages, but only if they delayed release until he could take credit for it. Part of the Iran Contra scandal…absolutely amazing nobody went to jail for that.

I highly doubt it. Correction: the hostages were released on the first day of Reagan's presidency but only thanks to Carter's diplomacy. Give credit where it's due.

    No.

    Reagan gave them weapons.

And he shat his panties and ran away crying like a little girl when 300 US Marines were killed in Beirut.

No just sell the Ayatollah arms after he promised to "not bargain with terrorists."
