For the most part, where you use your credit card has no bearing on your score. HOWEVER, using your card excessively at casino ATM machines, topless bars, liquor stores, etc can be tracked by the CC issuer. So, excessive use at these types of establishments might impact your score because they can be interpreted as risky spending habits. How do they know where you use your card? Each type of merchant has a Merchant Category Code assigned by the credit card industry and the IRS. You'll see it on your itemized statement that says "MCC = XXXX". Airlines, hotels/motels, car rental agencies, grocery stores, liquor stores, casinos, hardware stores, gyms, banks & credit unions, doctors, hospitals, urgent care clinics, etc. You name it, that type of store, merchant or service provider has an MCC assigned to it; maybe even houses of ill repute are classed in some way.

if you want to build your credit pay it off in full every month, what is reported to the credit bureaus is the credit card company stating that you " paid on time-never late" or " late" defaulted. where you use it makes no difference, just pay it off each month by the due date

Yes. And you build more credit if you use it less. You can buy groceries with it, but you'll build less credit by using it more.
