For a fiction book, what gender of psychologist is better for an 18-year-old autistic patient? Man or woman?

Update:

The 18-year-old patient is a woman. Her psychologist is a friend of her late mom's. Which gender of psychologist would be suitable for a fiction book? If her psychologist was male, he slept with her mother once. If psychologist was female, then nothing. Some other twist.

Update 2:

I'm not sexist or anything. Just having a hard time which would be better. And that psychologist would be great no matter what gender.

Update 3:

By the way, the patient wouldn't care what gender. She went through other psychologists before the right one.

Which ever gender the young person is most comfortable with. It is how that patient will relate to the psych.

Who would your character work better with? There are good and bad psychologists, no matter what gender.

Make your choice. Gender is less important than ability.

It makes no difference, UNLESS the patient expresses a preference for one over the other.
