Let's see if meaning fits any of the definitions of life first first:

    1. Is meaning complex and organized? - I'd agree with the first, second subject to question.

    2. Does meaning grow? - I think that could be said to be the case, though this is subjective. Others might say it contracts.

    3. Does meaning reproduce? - Asking this about meaning simply shows how silly it is to consider meaning to have "life."

    4. Does meaning show evidence of homeostasis? - Perhaps. Certainly those who give life meaning seem to push away ideas to the contrary and select ideas that suit their opinions, though that isn't limited to those who believe life has a meaning.

Point 3 isn't necessary to declare something alive. For example, a mule is alive but cannot reproduce.

The organization and growth of meaning would be the areas where I'd look for some evidence it might be considered alive. Are the ideas that life has meaning organized and do they grow? Some would say yes and others would say no. I think whether meaning has a life is subjective without further evidence.

I'd look for the reproduction of meaning before declaring this settled ;)

Thanks for a lively and reproducible answer. And thanks for rescuing me from aphilosophical categories.

See this coincidence thing I've been having. I was going to ask about the meaning of the purpose of life, or some such other scrambled up version of same.

Happy Hiram....I want to post a great Seth quote about the purpose of life....but I know better than that in this forum. (matter of fact, I probably couldn't find it when I need it).

So a worse case scenario....I will try to type it on all out in my own words.

I wish in a way you hadn't used the word "secret" in your question. There are the elite, the initiated, who know secret stuff. None-the-less we are all one, and each have affect upon the other, whether or not we reveal secrets or even could for that matter.

The universe is constantly expanding maybe....in some sense, the greater energies could be contained in a nutshell, in another sense.

Meditation is good, expressing your emotions is good, acting demur is good, acting like a crazy person is good.

We are creating our own reality both individually and en masse. The one affects the whole. You get what you focus upon.

One of the most difficult things you will ever do, is to know thyself. The constant that is change....keeps the meaning always at bay.

That is assuming a lot in your understanding of the "eye" of the beholder, Shameless. Why not just say it is only what is meaningful to me? But then they don't call you Shameless for nothing.

What is meaning? How can I achieve it? Instead of sounding like a typical guru, I will give you a wealth of materials I have used in my own pursuit of meaning. My sincerest attempts at my own personal meaning. Learn from it what you will.

Meaning comes in many forms, such as practical, existential, poetic, philosophical, metaphysical, and psychological. People have found meaning through writing or keeping a journal or diary, through experiences of nature, education, and even sexuality. The form of meaning I have found is called Asceticureanism or also Aestheticureanism, which is the pursuit of simple aesthetic practices, such as swinging a coin on a string. I will include here some writings on Asceticureanism and related materials. Remember, if you don't find enjoyment, you may need something purposeful to do. You can be ambitious, but not if you give up before you get there!

Sartre wrote that life itself is meaningless and absurd and that we ourselves have to put a meaning in it . I would say .The secret life of meaning is that it has no life of its own so it will agree to anything . until a fact appears then it will make itself felt

There is no "secret life" of meaning. The life of (i.e. evolution) of knowledge and meaning is extensively dealt with in the field of evolutionary epistemology. Here, knock yourself out: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/epistemology-evo...

Oh wait, truth has been nailed to a cross? And nobody invited me, waaaa...

Or maybe that is the viewpoint YOU accept. Odd how authoritarian science worshippers are.

Any Meaning must have a long long life or else it would be really meaningless.
