A lot of people were upset because they were under the impression that political pressure was going to force the RTB to pass the women no matter how they did. In addition to that, people started spreading rumors before the class was even over about how their graduation was guaranteed it even happened.
A huge rumor that went around at least a week before their graduation was that the White House contacted Benning and told them that the President was attending the graduation, which pretty much implied that those women better be among the graduating class. The graduation came and the President wasn't there, the highest person that attended the graduation was the Chief of Staff of the Army.
Fact of the matter is that no favoritism was reported. However, that doesn't mean that the rumors will die. There will always be a conspiracy going on stating that they were given special treatment. Also, there are people that didn't want them in Ranger School because they mistakenly assume that passing Ranger School means that they are going to the Ranger Regiment. That is not the case, Ranger School is a leadership school and in no way means that you are getting into the Regiment.

There were many others that passed the test, but only two that passed the training. And the big deal is that they are the first to do so.
