看不懂一段英文的比喻

Before the existence of labs, it is said that algae was the very first cultured bacteria. When algae became bored with floating, it decided to invent algaebra. Then, it moved onto Calculae. Who would have expected such experimental maths from a clump?

請問為何從藻類講到數學? algaebra及Calculae有甚麼意涵在裡面嗎? 字典裡沒有這兩個詞,是用拼字組成的嗎?

    很多細菌微生物的字尾,都是 -a, 複數 -ae

    譬如 阿米巴原蟲: ameba, amebae

    引文是在玩文字遊戲,開玩笑

    algae 海藻(複數); 單數為 alga

    因為拼字很像 algebra (代數) ,作者瞎掰說是海藻 algae 發明 algaebra (明顯就是後來的 algebra)

    所以繼續說笑,它後來又發明 Calculae 這個字很像 Calculus (微積分) (的複數),完全是作者搞笑的。

    algaebra是不是有拼錯?!或許是algebra吧

    而Calculae應該是Calculate計算的意思吧!
