Although Laura Bush was surprisingly gracious as our First Lady and is the one thing GW Bush did right in his nation-destroying life, you would have to define the meaning you give "better" in order for this question to be answered with any degree of specificity. First Lady Laura Bush did not take on any big projects unless you consider keeping her alcoholic drug-addicted husband from self-destructing, although she is credited with designing a new rug for the Oval Office---a rug that President Obama opted to keep in place upon taking office.

Michelle Obama, as our powerful First Lady, by contrast, has taken on more than one project, to include mentoring for young American girls to help encourage them to pursue their dreams (not well-publicized, but you can learn more at her website) and the fight to put an end to child obesity. The "Let's Move" program initiated by First Lady Michelle is leading millions of Americans to healthier lifestyles, which cuts down on medical care needs and costs, she has met with world leaders and their families, and she is wildly loved worldwide and here at home.

If effectiveness is the criteria for your "better"...then Michelle wins hands down. However, they each have a different style and both styles are effective. Both Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama are strong women who do not apologize for being strong---they embrace their power. Laura Bush, on the other hand, focused more on being behind-the-scenes strong in supporting her husband. I liked all three of these women, but think Michelle Obama is the most interesting of the three.

Michelle Obama. She has been much more proactive than Laura Bush. She is out in public, does interviews, gives speeches, and her get fit program has brought awareness to one of the biggest problems in this country, obesity.

Mrs. Obama has accomplished more in the past six years than Laura Bush has in her entire privileged life!

Laura Bush - she loved America, instead of resenting it

That depends on if you want the first lady to be actively engaged in some kind of crusade--good chidrens nutrition on Mrs. Obama's part--or to be low key and stay in the background like Mrs. Bush.

I don't care about first ladies. they are not officials. they came along because at one point in time they let the president f*ck them. Yeah, that's right. Imagine George HW boink Babs.

Like it or not the first ladies are used as a ploy on slow news days.

Laura Bush liked brown liqueur and raleigh non filters. Other than that, I respect Michelle more.
