Would a McLaren F1 be a good first car for a 16-year-old?

It's not as fast as the new supercars or even the 2015 Camaro Z/28.

McLaren F1 - 0.86 g

Z/28 - 1.09 g

McLaren F1 - 0-30 mph in 1.8 s

Z/28 - 0-30 mph in 1.7 s

Obviously just a troll post, but I have a tip for you - if you're going to troll, at least know what you're talking about. An F1 is faster than just about any car made today, there are no Ferrari's, Porsches, Maseratis, Astons, Lamborghini's or Chevy's that are faster. It is capable of 243 MPH with the rev limiter removed. Only Veyrons, Hennesey Venom (if you believe the claims), maybe a Pagani or Koennigsegg can touch it.

The best first cars especially for the beginners have to be cheap to buy and cheap to run. The McLaren F1 for a 16-year-old is definitely not a bright idea!

  • If said 16 year old just won the Formula 3 championship and is on his/her way to Formula 1, sure. Otherwise a Civic, Mazda 3 or Focus will be a better choice.

If you have about a million dollars to throw away.

Insurance here for an experience driver is about $200000 a year.

Just because you can drive the one on your X Box game doesn't mean anything. So dream on.
