What do I put in a basic survival kit?

For some reason, I just suddenly feel like I need to have an emergency kit just in case something happens. Like, I get stuck out on the woods or get lost. I need a list of what I can fit in a backpack that I can carry. Thanks!

Everyone has their own needs when it comes to a survival bag. For example, if you have a family, you would pack more food than someone living alone. If you have babies, then baby food and formula. However, there are necessities that every bag should have

several knives, if you live in a wooded area then you may consider a machete

    A leatherman multi tool

Lighters, matches, and cotton to start fires

You can also carry steel wool and a 6 volt battery, which when rubbed together creates an impressive fire

Candles, flashlights (with xtra batteries) and/or chemical lights

    Rope, string, and parachute cord

    Duct tape

    Something to cook on

    A metal canteen for water

    A metal coffee cup

Maybe a small pan or pot

Extra clothes, especially socks and underwear (perhaps a hat)

    Good boots and gloves

Ammunition if you carry a firearm (recommended)

Along with food, I keep chocolate and candy for children

    Bug spray and disinfecting wipes

Emergency radio, signaling mirror, and emergency space blanket

There's at least a dozen sites with such lists, starting with the red cross. #1 for me a good "full tang" knife. Add basic first aid kit, canteen, water purification tablets or bottle of tincture of iodine, waterproof container of strike anywhere matches. I would add another container of lint from the clothes dryer.
