What is cliche about dystopian young adult fiction?
I am writing a dystopian YA novel, and I was wondering what to avoid. What is most cheesy or cliche or even just annoying about most dystopian stories? Thanks :)

The average teenager who is unique/special in a way that threatens the long-standing government.
Any sort of test of aptitude.
Parents dying, usually to protect their Special Snowflake Child.
The broody love interest.
Love at first sight.
The Love Triangle of DOOOOOOOM!
Thinking about romance when they really should be thinking about... I dunno... SURVIVING
Technologically backward rebels capable of defeating a technologically superior government.
"The enemy is us!" (ie: normal citizens brainwashed/microchipped/etc into becoming soldiers).
Characters who are too stupid to live.
Characters who know how to fight/use weapons/lead armies despite their upbringing as a milk-maid in a small rural town.
Suppression of love/creativity/emotions/etc

Read some and find out. Reading is one of the most valuable tools when it comes to learning to write, but all too often it just gets dismissed. The best way to see what's been done and what hasn't been done in YA dystopian fiction is to READ YA dystopian fiction. Discover what those cliches are for yourself.
Mikah covered the usual suspects, but you'll get a far better view of what is and isn't a cliche by reading these sorts of books.

That the world is always destroyed but they manage to still eat food. In "The Matrix", the claimed to have destroyed the sun. But the live people aren't eating fish! Where do they get their food from? Even slugs and worms need to eat dead plants! Where did the machines get the nutrients to feed the humans in their cells?
And the other thing is the utter destruction of all the cities, but what, no one ever tries to plant a garden or rebuild a building? They destroy society but no one does anything to try to rebuild? All of the bands of raiders and gangs do nothing but destroy things but no one is capable of saying, "Hey, idiots, if you want to eat food you have to grow it again!" So,....... yeah.
