I don't buy the argument of anyone who says "better education". The USA has a perfectly good educational system and yet religion flourishes there.

Personally I put it down to the establishment of religion. If a country has an official church, and especially if it suppresses any other kind (as King Henry VIII did in England), that church turns into a top people's club and a branch of government. This puts "ordinary" people off attending it, they realise they can live a good life without religion, and so it declines.

The reason why the Methodist Church was founded is a case in point. John Wesley, a priest of the official church, went around England preaching on horseback. Crowds gathered to hear him. They'd never heard this stuff before and wanted to know more. Where do we go to learn more when you've travelled on, Mr Wesley? Obviously he said "go to church". This totally baffled the official Church of England as it had settled down to a complacent life providing nice quiet jobs as clergy to the younger sons of the aristocracy. All these working class people turning up and expecting to hear a decent sermon and receive frequent Holy Communion as Wesley taught... er, what? The Bishop of Bristol even called Wesley's enthusiasm for his faith "a very horrid thing"! There was nothing for it and though Wesley hated it, he founded his own denomination of the church by accident, building his own chapels and appointing suitable people as preachers to staff them. Better that than having nowhere for the Methodists to go.

In the rest of Europe it was much the same thing with Catholics - they were too bound up with the government to be a real religion. France is an important case. The French Revolution not only rebelled against the king, it rebelled against the Catholic Church that was so much bound up with royal government, and one manifestation was to produce a new calendar that had no days, months or years named after anything religious. (It didn't last long as (a) it put France out of step with everywhere else and (b) it included a decimal 10-day week, which didn't go down well as it meant fewer weekends!) Just for fun, today in that calendar is 29 Frimaire 223. Frimaire means "frost" and next month will be Nivôse (snow).

So the decline in Europe started long ago and it has just carried on ever since, more slowly now as the numbers involved with religion are getting down to the minority who are actually interested.

I wonder about that. Usually when someone says something concerning a vast amount of people, they have some poll or something to support their statement. I see you have none posted. Where do you base your opinion? I'm not saying you are wrong, but what have you got to support your statement that religion is slowly declining in Europe?

The Bible prophesied about the decline in religion as well as a decline in people's attitude ~ period. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says, "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away."

Religion is slowly declining in Europe because information is easier to obtain and people are realizing their ancient religions are based on even more ancient superstitions.

Education and growing intellect boosted by all the sad Christian intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia an persecution they practice!

England's Archbishop of Canterbury has said that Christianity is now known for it's hatreds and not about god!

Christian leaders from around the world have clearly stated their opposition to the "victimization or diminishment" of gays and lesbians, saying demonizing and persecuting them was "totally against Christian charity and basic principles of pastoral care".

Taking one sin to indulge in intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia and persecution will never be acceptable in the eyes of God!

"We say that no one should have to live in fear because of the bigotry of others."

ALL the other religions and atheists live in peace and are ONLY attacked by BAD Christians which causes all GOOD Christians to despair at the damage they do!

The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only thing that can stop it is to abandon the terrible human emotions, seek to rediscover the idea of a loving god and act like it!

Christian attitudes towards others not only drives people further away from God but are the reason so many DECENT people are becoming ANTITHEISTS!

Religion is declining everywhere education is available.

It is much harder to dupe educated persons into the pretense of religion, and education is much more widely available now.

Religion will continue to decline, but much too slowly. But it declines faster with each passing day.

  • The numbers of sociopaths grow more and more. Sociopaths hate religion, they see it as rules and regulations that get in their way. It use to be 1/7 was a sociopath but it's now 3/7. Do research on sociopaths you'll see.

No, not true. Europe may have become post-Christian but Islam is gaining ground.

Because we are entering into the End Times when Satan sends the Anti-Christ into the World to destroy Israel. Jesus told us one of the sings of the End Times will be a falling away of the Church.

More and more people are turning their backs on God to follow their Lusts and evil desires. Do not be fooled, God is coming back and He will destroy all those who hate Him and reject Him.
