A 2200/250V transformer takes 0.5A at a pf of 0.3 on open circuit. Find the magnetising and working components of no-load primary current.

    The magnetising component is 0.5 x 0.954 = 0.477 amps {note that : 0.954 = sin[arc-cos(0.3)]}

    The working component is 0.5 x 0.3 = 0.15 amps

    it is a resistor in parallel with an inductor

    cos phi = 0.3 sin phi = 0.95

    IR = 0.5 x 0.3 = 0.15 A

    IL = 0.5 x 095 = 0.47 A

    V / IR = 2200 / 0.15 >>>>>R = 14666 ohms

    V / IL = 2200 / 0.47 >>>>Xl = 4680 ohms
