    1.

"where" here means "in a case"or "in which" (的情況下). Hence, "Where it once was a compliment" can be translated as "它曾經是一種恭維(的情況下)"

In a grammar sense, "where" is used as a conjunction, it means "in a case" of "in which", "a case" or "which" represents "cheesy."

    2.

It used "would have paid", means this sentence is a subjunctive mood (假設語氣). let's make it simpler first as:

You paid to stay away from the original "blockbuster" (避開原始的 "blockbuster" 對你是值得的)

where "paid to" means "To be profitable or worthwhile" (有利可圖的 or 值得的)

Now you put back the subjunctive:

You would have paid to stay away from the original "blockbuster" (避開原始的 "blockbuster" 對你就已經會是值得的)

This type of subjunctive, it means "所論及過去的事並沒有發生"

I don't know precisely what "blockbuster" is here, but in US, there was a national chained video store called "blockbuster." It might refer to this store (related to its stock). It might also refer to those popular movies. Without other sentences, it is hard to grasp its meaning exactly.

Sorry for my Chinese translation the sentence in subjunctive mood, if you have trouble to understand it.

    1. Over the years, the definition was turned upside down.Where it once was a compliment, now "cheesy" is an insult.

例where there is a will, there is a way.

Where it once was a compliment, now "cheesy" is an insult.

2.You would have paid to stay away from the original "blockbuster" .

    1. Where it once was a compliment, now "cheesy" is an insult.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

    2. You would have paid to stay away from the original "blockbuster."

to stay away from the original "blockbuster"是不定詞片語,修飾前面的述部would have paid。

I paid him 50 dollars to stay away from me.

He was paid 50 dollars to stay away from me.

I didn't paid him 50 dollars to stay away from me.

I would have paid him 50 dollars to stay away from me.(我本來有意付款的,但郤未付)

He would have been paid 50 dollars to stay away from me.(他本來是會收到錢的,但郤未收到)
