If the 17th Amendment had never been passed, what would be the results of the upcoming Senatorial elections ?
As you know, without the 17th Amendment the State Legislatures would appoint their Senators. – Thus the question becomes: “How many of the State Legislatures with vacant Senatorial positions are currently controlled by the Republicans and how many are controlled by the Democrats?” .
I'm looking for intelligent answers. - If you don't know, please keep your opinions to yourself.

when Romney was Governor of MASS and Teddy Kennedy died
the democrats in the Mass State legislature quickly voted to change the law that allowed the Governor to appoint a Senator to fill the rest of the term, to demanding a special election.
Just to block Romney from filling Kennedy's Senate seat with a republican -- happened anyway
2. But when Obama named kerry secretary of State -- the same democrats then quickly voted to change the law back to the way it used to be
just to allow the now democratic governor to appoint a democrat to fill kerrys Senate seat
3. just how do you get more crooked than that ?
