As a Missouri resident, I can tell you that St. Louis County is a vast area composed of many Missouri cities and towns, Ferguson being just one of these.
Governor Jay Nixon (D-MO) is talking now to Missouri residents, being televised live on MSNBC, announcing that he has called upon the Missouri Highway Patrol to take the lead in providing security, headed by State Trooper Captain Johnson, a black officer who was raised in Ferguson. In addition, Governor Nixon has asked the Department of Justice, headed by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, to run a parallel investigation into the violent shooting death on Saturday (August 10) of an unarmed black male teenager by an overzealous cop. The St. Louis County police and the Ferguson police department have been taken to task for trying to violate the First Amendment rights of demonstrators and embedded reporters by attempting to harass them and block any recording of the police actions, which were barbaric to say the least. The overkill use of teargas, rubber bullets, concussion grenades, and military assault weapons aimed at unarmed American citizens engaging in their constitutional right to assemble peacefully was not instigated by what the police have tried to claim was "assault" from the demonstrators at all---they were loaded for bear, as my dad used to say, and got trigger happy much like Binyamin Netanyahu raining terror upon 1.87 million civilian Palestinians trapped inside the concentration camp he has created in Gaza with his bullying seven-year-old ILLEGAL blockade.
Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) has spoken out to criticize the over-militarization of the county police, explaining that the equipment was funded shortly after the 9/11 attacks in an overreaction.
