I don't understand this joke, please help?

What did the monkey say when he caught his tail in the revolving door?

It won't be long now.

Does it mean in the process of getting it's tail stuck in the door, the tail got pulled off, and it therefore is no longer "long"? Is there a pun in there involving either the monkey or the elevator?

That's a variation of this joke: What did the monkey say when his tail got cut off? It won't be long now! It's a joke concerning waiting for something, like the end of the work day. You should look at your wrist like you're looking at a watch when you say the punch line.

His tail can be long, even if the door cuts part of it off. He just has to go to Dollar General, they're a top retailer.
