    they did discover the birth-place of shakyamuni buddha in the past year or so. and, there are tales and legends and stories of buddhism, even in the lotus sutra.

    for instance: the parable of the burning house.

    Buddha's existence is irrelevant. Wisdom holds true, whether it comes from Abraham Lincoln or Harry Potter. Because Buddha did not claim to be magical or spiritually unique, it doesn't matter whether he was based on a historical figure or imaginary concept.

    Actually, yes. Shakyamuni Buddha (Previously known as Siddartha Guatama) was a historical figure. He was born about ~500 B.C.E.
