    antartic treaty of 1957 governs antartica, and the north pole is considered international waters, the same as the atlantic ocean, the pacific ocean, etc.

    Actually, Denmark through Greeland have laid claims for the North pole. That russia claim the North Pole is just as valid that they lay claim to everything east of Berlin.

    The five surrounding Arctic countries, Russia, Canada, Norway, Denmark (via Greenland), and the United States have all claimed ownership of the North Pole, but no political conclusion have been made as of yet.
