how long does it take to build an airport?
on average, how long do you think (or maybe know) it takes to build an airport? a good one, with a few terminals.

The actual construction of an airport could take 2-5+ years depending on the size. Where many airports build in stages, and may have the first terminal or two opened in 2-3 years.
However, there could be 10-20 years of "red tape" before you even start construction.

Australia just announced the construction of a second airport for Sydney and expect it to be operational in 2020 so 6 years.
Of course it all depends on the situation. It is possible to build a runway capable of handing smaller jets quickly (the military often does it this way) and temporary buildings.
