The Catholics recognize Lent to be the 40 day period, from the time up until Easter, of the period in which Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross of Calvary, leading up to Good Friday through Easter Sunday. I was once a Roman Catholic, and faithfully fasted, ate certain foods, wore certain color clothes, went to Mass and Confession more frequently, and tried to sin less. Since I have been born again, all of these are just works and will burn. Every day should be a day of reflection and repentance, and no one can do good works to please God, because we are working for Salvation. Salvation makes us do good works, not the other way around. This is a designated time by the church from as far back, as can be remembered. Bible believing Christians, are aware of the period leading up to the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, for the sins of the world, by his shed blood and death and resurrection on the cross. No special time is designated for this observance, except for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. And the biblical observance is to be used, and nothing more or less can be added or taken away, from the Total work that Jesus Christ Alone did for the salvation of the world. God will never recognize anything added on to the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made, by shedding his blood for the remission of sins. It is Finished. He conquered Death, Hell, Satan, Fear and Sin. Satan was totally defeated by Jesus ONLY.
