(I just had to add my own personal experience! I was a French major in college, and got a job in Washington, D.C., and ended up in the Vietnamese section. This was before computers were developed, and there were Ph.D. mathematicians breaking the high-level codes. I got to work on the low-level codes and loved learning how to break those! I'm 84 yrs old now, and worked my whole adult life. I had some interesting jobs, but this one was one of the best! ") OH! Also, we had to work two-weeks of each shift. E.G., Two weeks on Days; 2 on Evenings; and 2 weeks on the Graveyard shift! I always thought that this was probably to make sure that we were constantly disoriented by the shifting sleep patterns, that we couldn't orchestrate any subversive activity.) ").
