Now now, I know I wrote a lot but READ IT ALL! It takes less time to read this than to take a leak and wash your hands. It'll be worth it.
In simple terms, a lot of people tried to ban Eminem's music like 15 years ago because of what he was rapping about. Eminem rapped about real life in the way he saw it (from poverty) which involved killing, guns, drugs, and homophobia. And he makes fun of a lot of things that are wrong with the world.
But he makes meaningful and insightful songs. For example:
Lose Yourself is about determination and working hard,
Sing For The Moment is a reflection on the music industry,
When I'm Gone is about his struggles trying to be a good father, and Cleaning Out My Closet is a personal song about his rough childhood and his crazy mother.
And then there are also songs that are less personal but just as brilliant like Stan and Kill You.
Stan is about an obsessed fan who goes crazy and ends up doing some bad stuff:
Kill You doesn't hold a positive message at all, or a creative story, but if you were more familiar with poetry and different rhyme schemes & delivery, you'd know how talented Eminem must be to rap with such prowess. It's funny too, just don't take his darker music literally. If you don't understand the humor in his songs, wait till you are older to listen to them. Your parents might be concerned otherwise.
I guess your friend's mom is just one of those people that ate up all the media garbage about Eminem making "the Devil's Music".
And as for your friend, Eminem is definitely not for 12 year olds haha. If anything, Eminem is for 21 year olds.
PS. I cannot believe how ignorant people can be, especially right wing, brainwashed, mindlessly religious, uneducated females. (Yes, I just read your comment Jesse). And Jesse, Eminem has recorded over 500 songs and not once has he said the N' word. Furthermore, late rapper Tupac says the N' word in every single song yet his song 'Changes' was selected to be on the Pope's Vatican playlist because it holds a very positive message regardless of his vocabulary, much like most of his other songs.
And also! So instead of learning about the robbing, rape, and violence that is going on in the world, you want to turn a blind eye to it. That is SO MUCH BETTER. Instead of trying to be aware of the unfortunate and those living in poverty, you want to turn a blind eye to them keep letting them struggle.
How stupid do you have to be to think that making some silly hand sign makes someone a devil? So if I give my friend rabbit ears with my hands when taking a picture, does that make him a devil?
Damn it what am I even doing.. This is what happens when I have too much free time during vacation. Kid, just listen to his music and decide for yourself if you like Eminem or not. Don't give a damn what other people think, because who cares? Why the hell would you care? Really.
There are only a handful of rappers who can match Eminem's lyrical talent.
