John, Kevin and Jane have $120.

Formula:

j + k + a = 120

Jane has a third of what John has

a = j

or

j = 3a

and Kevin has twice as much as Jane.

k = 2a

Find how much Jane has using the 1st equation, replace j and k

3a + 2a + a = 120

6a = 120

a = 120/6

a = $20

How much money does, in dollars, does Kevin have?

k = 2a

k = 2(20)

k = $40

Assume, john has amount x ; then jane has x/3 and kevin has 2x/3 . therefore, (x+x/3+2x/3)=120

that gives us, x=60.........so, kevin has 40(answer)
