Is a sneeze guard required?
I am trying to find out when a sneeze guard is required and when it is not. So far I have only found that self-service food areas must have it. But I am trying to find if you need one when food is just close to the customer (Like at Subway). The customer does not actually serve the food, but is very close to it.
I only ask because a section of the glass had broken at a local restaurant and, after cleaning up, they continued to serve food.

Somewhere in the monstrosity of a publication that is the FDA's. 2013 Food Code (see link). It states, something like, that a physical barrier has to in place to protect food from the public. Takes them about a page to explain this but it boils down to just that. With certain exceptions.

Of course it is required.
