Grand Marais is a pretty little town in the area of Minnesota known as the "North Shore." It is one of several small towns along the north shore of Lake Superior. It is a popular place for tourism in Minnesota because it has lots of outdoor activities in the surrounding forests - hunting, fishing, camping, hiking etc. The drive from Duluth along the North Shore is quite pretty. There is boating on Lake Superior, although the water can be choppy and cold. The land is mostly wooded, and it gets hilly as you get away from the lake. Along the lake it is fairly flat, and the beaches are rocky. There are mosquitoes. It is a bit of a sleepy town, but very pleasant.

It's a very small city (1300 people) in the middle of nowhere, near the Canadian border, on the marsh lands of Lake Superior. Average summer temperatures are in the low 70s.
