Speak Hungarian? Need Your Help!?

Ok, so I have a situation dealing with the words "barat" and "haver"

So I have a friend, who is from Hungary, that I have known for a while now. So she was teaching me some Hungarian words and told me that friend mean "haver" and so she calls me her "haver." Well recently, I met another Hungarian and I told what all Hungarian terms I knew and he said that friend really means "barat" and "haver" is more of a buddy, associate. Well I want to know the true difference between the words because I would actually call this girl a real friend and it would suck if she consider me an associate. Thanks in advance guys!!!
