The Knicks freaking suck, but the Garden is always sold out.

That actually tells me nothing. The size of the city is about 9 million so the Garden will always sell out if nothing more than for people to watch the opposing team beat the Knicks and by how much. Madison Square Garden is a great arena and the energy of people there is awesome especially after a Knicks loss. You have people doing crazy things in the street. And cops , oh the cops have their work cut out for them.
