Is cyber security and digital forensics hard to study?

It's definitely not a walk in the park. There's a lot to know and study - you'll need technical skills at the very least. More if you plan on getting into training, policy-writing, etc. Depending on what you focus on, you'll need admin-level skills for networking, Windows/Unix/Linux/Mac, programming, web development... plus, if you get into the forensics side, you'll need some classes on evidence handling and legal matters.
I'd recommend taking a look at the classes at sans.org - if nothing else, they should be able to give you an idea of what sort of training goes into the field.
