Why is it that the longer the Republicans control a state's legislature the worse the roads get?
I think it is because they refuse to spend the money to keep good roads. What do you think?
Examples : Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arizona. All of which I have traveled this year and their roads are BAD!
What do YOU think is the reason?

Besides having some of the worst roads, Conservative Republican controlled States have some of the worst laws in our country.
1 - Conservatives have passed State laws that makes it nearly impossible for a woman to exercise her Constitutional right that was ruled on by our Supreme Court in 1973.
2 - Conservatives have passed State laws that make it harder to vote, require a special I.D. to be purchased, removes early voting hours, removes voting booths in populated areas causing longer wait times to vote which is targeted in the Liberals voting areas.
3 - Conservatives have passed State laws that have removed workers right to bargain which was passed in the FDR area (1930's), and have made it harder for Union's to organize so workers can have a voice.
4 - Conservative controlled States have refused to pass a higher Minimum Wage which helps the workers have more buying power to improve our economy.
Furthermore, Conservative controlled States like Texas brag about job creation which pays close to Minimum Wage yet Texas has 28% of Texans without medical coverage.
Conservatives are even attempting to reduce Food Stamps in Budget negotiations but refuse to cut Corporate Subsidies for Big OIL, DRUG and INSURANCE companies.
How can Conservatives push for cuts in Food Stamps which feeds our poor before pushing to cut Corporate subsidies for wealthy businesses? Campaign donations? Lack of morals?
Even the new Pope calls this immoral and has even called the Conservative "trickle down economic" being against the Christian beliefs. So why does the religious Conservatives continue to vote for these guys?
There is good and bad about both political parties but Conservative Republicans have passed or supported laws that are against "the people".

Actually, it's that they refuse to raise taxes. Since gas taxes are set at a per gallon cost, even with the current low rate of inflation, the "real" value of gas taxes fall. Additionally, as cars are becoming more fuel efficient, you are getting more miles travelled for the same nominal revenue.

the big issues with roads are:
1. the racist Davis-Bacon Act unfairly keeps low skill workers off the job if federal funds are even part of the deal. ["low skill" workers are predominantly Black, Hispanic, and/or immigrant]
2. up to 1/4th the federal highway trust fund has been raided by politicians and their pork barrel vote buying. the money frequently isn't even used for roads, despite that gasoline taxes paid it in.
3. Congress refuses to tax the trucking industry in proportion to the wear its vehicles put on the highways. [Trucking gets a 50% discount from the actual proportion of wear they inflict, according to studies by the Dept. of Transportation.]
so what happens when the Dims are in charge is they blithely ignore these major issues in order to reward their union friends with road construction/repair jobs. then, the roads get fixed and the ordinary people get ripped off.Source(s): grampa

Because of the robust economy that Republican policies create people can afford to buy cars and other things. This means that roads get used heavily with the transporting of good and people living their lives!
Why is it that the longer Democrats control anything the more it goes bankrupt and decays?! Look at Detroit, Illinois, and California!
