I absolutely love Alan Shearer, real legend of the game, superb in front of goal and a real number 9 in every sense but I was gutted when he called time on his England career despite carrying on with Newcastle United. I felt and still feel that a professional footballer should never put his club before his country. He also cited family reasons but for me, if your country needs you, your country needs you.
Nevertheless, Alan Shearer, the premier league's record goal scorer and former world record signing was not *** good as France's Thierry Henry. Henry had a different dimension to his game and was better than lethal with his chances. He didn't hang around waiting for the supply, he picked the ball up from deep many a time and made his own chances. He had more speed, flair and finesse than Shearer and he was a special, special talent.
Both good but Henry for me was better by some margin. He played for Arsenal, a side better than both Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United and hence he won trophies unlike Shearer so I have to go with Henry.
But I'm a huge Alan Shearer fan, love him and I don't even support any of the clubs he's ever played for, just England
