NYC January Vacation?

No I'm not crazy. I was originally gonna go to Chicago but chose NYC instead. I'm from LA and have always wanted to be in cold weather to see what it's really like.

Anyways... I'm gonna go the 3rd week of January and wanted to get some suggestions on where to go sightseeing. Are any places closed due to the cold weather? I'm staying by little Italy and will probably be traveling by subway.

All suggestions welcomed! Thanks!!!

You've forgotten your third option here for being in cold weather: save your money and take a short drive to Big Bear where it gets as cold and wintery as New York.
